Red Valley Saddle Club History

1957 or 1958 First Meetings of the Strathroy Saddle Club
February 1959 First Banquet at the Strathroy Legion on Front Street
1959 - 1961 Mostly Trail Rides and Parades
March 1962 Changed Name to Red Valley Saddle Club
The club became an affiliate of WHA ( Western Horse Association)
Leased the land for a corral from Earl Elliot
Shows held at Strathroy Fall Fair and Melbourne Fair
1963 Club Shows held at Strathroy Fair Grounds, plus a show at Strathroy Fair
1966 or 1967 Red Valley moved to Mohler's Field, Delaware  ( Just off Concession 1)
1968 - 1973 Shows were held every other week throughout the summer
A Spring and Fall Open horse show were held every year, plus the club helped to put on the Strathroy Fair show.
1974 Mohler's field had been sold
The club leased land and erected a corral at Harry Kilner's farm ( currently Twin Streams )
Bi monthly club shows were poorly attended
1975 Red Valley moved back to the Strathroy Fair grounds to a new ring constructed on the infield of the race track
1976 - 1989 Spring Open Horse Show, plus 5 club shows per year were held.
The club also put on the Strathroy Fair show, held the first week in June
1977 Creation of the Tevo Award - rotating trophy for the Hi Point Horse, donated by Mel Randall
RVSC first started using the plaques with photos for year end awards.
1984 ? Creation of the George McLellan Memorial - rotating trophy for the Hi Point Jr B, donated by the McLellan family
1984 ? Creation of the Audrey Long Memorial - rotating trophy for the Hi Point Jr A, donated by the Long family
February 1990 Redesign of the RVSC Logo by Glenda McLellan
1990 Creation of the Brian Carne Memorial - rotating trophy for the Hi Point Sr Speed, donated by the Crane family
Spring 1990 the Strathroy Fair Board had sold part of the fair grounds to the town
the current wooden ring had been sold and plans were underway to build a new show pen on the remaining land belonging to the Fair
July 1990 The club found itself without a show pen, since the purchaser removed it early
The remainder of the shows for 1990 were held at Equidale  ( Cantercrest)
Spring 1991 The Saddle club members helped to construct the current show pen at the Strathroy Fair grounds
Spring 2000 Construction of the Small Ring in front of the Tennis Courts
